CLASSES

In 2009 I began teaching sculpting beginning as a guest at FaerieCon and since including online tutorials for Custom Dolls Houses and Miniatures (CDHM.org), in magazines, and as a guest in stores and galleries. Here is where you can find info on upcoming classes and articles and how to register. I take a very explorative approach to teaching the craft. So often learning a new technique can be intimidating and crush the excitement to create. In class we try to set a tone of playfulness and exploration, and the results are magical! People who had never touched clay before come up with the most wonderful and creative pieces. This is what I hope to teach in my classes. The joy of exploring your own creativity and some skills to work the medium so you can accomplish this! Here are a few pictures of work from a recent basic sculpting class. Most of these folks had never tried this sort of thing before and their work was glorious.

I will be focusing on this full length non-credit college course for my teaching offerings this spring. We will sculpt a detailed miniature figure in polymer clay in this 7 week class. Click here for the course catalog and to register through Bucks County Community College.

Sculpting the Human Figure in  Miniature
Take your creativity to another dimension by learning figurative sculpture in miniature! In this relaxed and light-hearted class explore the possibilities of professional quality polymer clay to sculpt detailed human figures. Learn how to break down the seemingly daunting task of creating a figure into simple, cumulative steps. You will develop many skills through the class as you create an 8-9 inch tall human female figure, from face, to armatures (skeletons), to the details such as kneecaps, collarbones, and fingers. Finally, you will work on creating faux glass eyes, painting some details in heat set oil paint, and making a wig of fiber for hair. Whether you are a beginning or advanced art student, you can create an amazing figure using these techniques. There will be tool sets to use while you are in class, but feel free to bring tools if you already have them.  Molly Stanton, M.S.

Sunday 9:30 - 12:30 P.M.

When we make art, we are tapping into the energy and intelligence of the Cosmos. If we can silence the chorus of fear and self-doubt about our abilities and enter into a state of play, we take our places as co-creators of the world. Most people fear they are not creative or skilled enough to create art, but as children of the Universe, you are by your very nature creative and original and talented if you speak your truth.

By approaching the task of sculpting from an attitude of play, rather from a place of judgment, you have the opportunity to find a time of total presence and oneness. A single pointed focus where you can think, explore, know yourself more deeply, and enter a profound dialog with the Divine.

In this class we will learn some basic sculpting skills and create a beautiful goddess figure. I set an exploratory and playful tone and students are pleasantly surprised at the vitality and sheer awesomeness of what they create. I will teach pigment, working in glass beads, and more. You will leave with a goddess of your own and deeper sense of your creativity. Beginners and especially total novices are welcomed! All materials supplied.
